Eliteserien Strips

Who has the best Eliteserien strip this year? I took a look at all the home kits and rated them 1st to 16th

16 - Mjøndalen

I feel like brown just shouldn't be on a strip. It has novelty factor, but I just can't enjoy it.
Mjøndalen the only club with a brown strip of course, but for me it just isn't a nice strip.

15 - Start

Really don't like this yellow effort from Start. The sponsors just don't really work for me and it is such a generic yellow colour that it just doesn't stand out.

14 - Aalesund

Aalesund certainly stand out with this orange number, but it isn't for me. The collar is a bit boring, and I think it could have been a nicer shade of orange.

13 - Odd

I'm normally a fan of a white kit, and a hummel kit, but this one just isn't doing it for me. Possibly the red sponsor is ruining it.
I do like the collar design, but I prefer other white strips in the league.

12 - Haugesund

Another white effort, again probably ruined by the sponsor. I'm not a big fan of the collar either to be honest, not much in it between this and the Odd one.

11 - Viking

Huge sponsor issues again, all over the place as well. I like the colour but not much else going for it.

10 - Stabæk

Dark and light stripes traditonally make a nice kit, but the shades in this one are just a bit wrong. Also the colour is a weird colour. It is a bit cleaner than the other kits though in fairness.

9 - Strømsgodset

Nice colour and I like the stripes running through it. Not sure about the Kiwi logo in the middle of the chest, but apart from that, a solid strip.

8 - Vålerenga

A really nice shade of blue and it goes well with the red on the collar and sleeve. Simple design, but it does work for me in this case.

7 - Kristiansund

Again a nice colour and I do like the lines going across. Very similar to Godset, but I prefer the collar in this one and the lovely owl badge that KBK have.

6 - Bodø/Glimt

It is just a much nicer yellow than the Start strip, and it is very clean with just yellow and black.
They also have that faded globe coming in at the bottom which I kind of like.

5 - Brann

Very nice red effort from Brann this year. There is also some design on the sleeves that this picture doesn't quite do it justice.
Nothing fancy but nice and clean design, and a nice shade of red.

4 - Rosenborg

The best of the white kits, probably helped by the adidas stripes. For me it is not as nice as last years kit, but it's still a nice strip that is nice and simple with the one main sponsor on the front and classic white and black design.

3 - Sarpsborg

I really like this striped effort by Select for Sarpsborg this year. I like the shoulder design, and the slightly different collar. Wide stripes is good, the colours are nice and it all fits together very well.

2 - Molde

A really nice blue on the Molde strip this season, very simple design, much like the red Brann one. It's classic but it really works.

1 - Sandefjord

Ok, I am not sure why but I just love this Sandefjord strip. A huge yellow sponsor, but somehow it works for me. It's a great shade of blue, the slightly darker lines running across it really bring it out. Then that white collar is majestic.

It probably shouldn't be my favourite but it just is, and the red and blue badge works well with the sponsors and strip too.

Probably not everyone's favourite, but it would be the one I'd go for this year to add to my collection.

Special mention to Molde for their away kit, which is the same design as the home, but they have absolutely nailed the colour on it, and it is beautiful.

Gameweek 6 Review

Gameweek 6 was another one filled with goals in Eliteserien as the players now finally get the midweek free to rest up for more games next weekend. Six games in 18 days to start the season and a clear picture is starting to form at the top of the table in particular.

Sunday 5th July

Game of the Week

Stabæk v Rosenborg

Sunday evenings' game, the final game of the weekend saw Rosenborg travel to Stabæk for a tricky looking fixture as they looked to kick start their season.

There was a first start for new man Torgeir Børven, Islamovic dropping to the bench. This young Stabæk side had impressed against Strømsgodset in midweek, but Rosenborg were steadily improving, and on a windy evening at Nadderud Stadion, it would be a real test for them.

The first half was a fairly dull affair, both struggling to create chances and cope with the conditions. The only real chance fell to Gjermund Åsen, his left foot effort comfortably saved by Sandberg as the teams went in at half time goalless, neither looking like getting the breakthrough.

The second half started much the same, but the breakthrough arrived just before the hour, and not surprisingly it was from a set piece. Rosenborg got it, a great ball into the near post from a Helland corner, Sandberg just got his fists to it before Børven, but only managed to punch the ball onto the neck of Gustav Valsvik. It was the big defenders first of the season, only his second in Rosenborg colours.

This opened the game up and the lead was soon doubled. Islamovic having just come on with some lovely play involving Holse and then Trondsen, rose up to head home from close range. A perfect cross from Trondsen, the big Swede Islamovic finally getting his first goal for the Trondheim club.

With confidence now flowing for Rosenborg, and Islamovic, he tried his luck with a curling effort from 25 yards that had Sandberg scrambling. It went just wide on this occasion, but the game was over soon after.

A third goal arrived, three in a 15 minute spell, this time a lovely strike from Kristoffer Zachariassen. It was his first for the club since his summer move from Sarpsborg, something he has been threatening for a few games.

Again it was Trondsen with the assist, passing in to Zachariarssen who smashed home from the edge of the box and gave Rosenborg a comfortable lead.

From then on the game died out, although there was one final chance, a good strike from right back Hedenstad, very well saved down to his right by Sandberg.

A really disappointing night for Stabæk, but Rosenborg on the up under caretaker manager Trond Henriksen. With Børven in the striker role, his movement really freed up some extra space for midfield runners, and I think now Rosenborg can start to climb the league.

Stabæk will have better nights, I don't think the conditions helped the game, and the first goal was always going to be crucial. They have young talented players, and there will be some games they struggle to get up to the high levels they can achieve on other days.

Man of the Match - Gustav Valsvik got the crucial opening goal, but more importantly he was very solid all day. Winning all his headers, and doing all his defensive duties very well. As much as the win, it was a very good solid display, with Stabæk hardly creating anything all day.

Around the Grounds

Junker got his second hattrick of the season
Three days after a good win at Sarpsborg, Brann made the trip to Bodø to play top of the table Glimt. It quickly turned in to a disaster as the Glimt attacking steam train ran through the Brann defense and they were 4-0 up before half time.

The first was an early indicator of how, left back for Brann, Ruben Kristiansen, would get on for the rest of the day. Zinckernagel got in behind him, but as the ball was deflected off the keeper, instead of clearing, he tried to hold of Zinckernagel, and Kasper Junker ran in and fired home into an empty net.

The next goal was nice play from Saltnes on the left, firing across for a tap in for Junker again. Next up it was Zinckernagel, again Kristensen with a mistake, the ball hitting his back and then as he tried to recover he brought down Zinckernagel for a clear penalty. The Dane stepped up to fire it bottom left for his fourth of the season.

Before the half Saltnes had a goal, tapping in a rebound after Hauge had a shot saved by Ahamada in goal. Then in the second half there was only one further goal, and it was hattrick number two of the season for Kasper Junker. The Dane now has 8 for the season, the latest a nice finish with his left foot when put through by Zinckernagel. Zinckernagel himself with five assists to add to his four goals.

Another massive win for Bodø/Glimt, they now have scored 24 goals in the first six games, and have every reason to be excited for the remainder of the season.

Second placed Molde managed to remain just two behind Glimt with a 2-1 win of their own over Mjøndalen. It was far less convincing than Glimt though, as a late penalty save from Andreas Linde helped them hang on after being 2-0 up at the half.

Goals from Aursnes and Kitolano had Molde cruising, but a deflected Quint Jansen free kick gave Mjøndalen hope. Molde could have killed the game before late drama when Holmgren Pedersen gave away a penalty. Experienced Mjøndalen man, Christian Gauseth, stepped up but saw his strike saved.

Odd and Haugesund played out a goalless draw at Skagerak Arena, although not through want of trying. Haugesund created the most chances, with Sandberg and Velde particularly prominent throughout.

But Odd nearly won it through Filip Jørgensen, his shot from the edge of the box hitting the bar and bouncing down onto the line. But neither found a goal, both sides in the bottom half after six games.

Sarpsborg visited fellow strugglers Sandefjord, and emerged with their first 3 points of the season. It was a comprehensive win and a performance to go with it. A first senior goal for Sarpsborg for 19 year old Ismaila Coulibaly, a lovely flick from a corner, was then followed by a first of the season for Jørgen Strand Larsen.

Joachim Soltvedt added a third in the second half to take Sarpsborg off the bottom of the table and leave Sandefjord searching for their first win since gameweek 1, and still having only scored one goal from open play. They now haven't scored for four games running and look in big trouble.

Kristiansund travelled to the Marienlyst stadion to take on Strømsgodset, and left disappointed to have not taken all three points. Amahl Pellegrino took advantage of a horrible keeper error, stealing in and putting it into an empty net.

Then probably the goal of the season not long after, Pellegrino controlled a clearance from his own free kick before smashing a half volley in off the underside of the bar from 25 yards. Top quality from the Kristiansund man, already his 7th goal of the season.

But Godset showed some fight in the second half and got back in the game through Johan Hove, a nice strike into the bottom left corner from 20 yards. Then they were back level when Moses Mawa got his first of the season after a free kick wasn't cleared. A draw that Godset will be happier with as they continue to struggle a little early on this season.

Saturday 4th July

The two games on Saturday both ended in draws as both Aalesund and Start continue to look for that first win.

Start had the lead in the 77th minute against Viking through Eirik Schulze, but they couldn't hang on. It was a quality strike to equalise from Zymer Bytyqi on his left foot from the right corner of the box into the far top corner.

Substitute Bytyqi nearly won it late, but his shot on the turn just whistled past the post, meaning Start are 15th and Viking are 12th after six games.

Fridjonsson in good form for Aalesund
Aalesund will be kicking themselves again as they threw away a two goal lead at Vålerenga. It was Holmbert Fridjonnson that scored both goals for Aalesund, the first a world class cross from David Olafsson, putting it on his head. The second was another good cross from the other side, but the defender looped it into the air trying to clear, and the big Icelandic striker just squeezed it over the line, maybe even with his arm.

But they couldn't hold on, first it was Stokke who got Vålerenga back in it with his first goal for the club, then somehow Aalesund found themselves short at the back and Dønnum went clean through and unselfishly passed it over to Bård Finne for an open goal.

It ended 2-2 but both could have won it, although Sam Adekugbe was sent off for the home side, his second booking for diving, which may well have been a foul and was probably a little harsh.

So Glimt continue their great start to the season, and now only Aalesund and Start are yet to win. With a week in between the next game, the players can rest up for a well deserved midweek free.

Gameweek 6 Preview

A look ahead at Gameweek 6 in Eliteserien with games taking place Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday 4th July

Start v Viking  (score draw)

Start still chasing that win, they set up defensively last time out with a back 5 for the first time. Viking got their first win on Wednesday night, Berisha looking lively and getting a goal.
There have been 14 goals in Start's three home games so far, so I'm expecting goals here, I don't think they will be as defensive.
At least 2 goals in all five Viking games so far, 3 or more in 3 of them, so I don't think it will be low scoring.
Both teams have also been winning lots of corners with the way they play. Start especially get a lot of crosses in to the box, so looking at corners here too.

Bet builder: Over 2.5 goals, Goal in each half, over 9.5 corners, Viking draw or win double chance.

Goalscorers I like: Skålevik(Start) Berisha(Viking)

Vålerenga v Aalesund (home win)

Another winless team in Aalesund, and they were poor in midweek against Mjøndalen. Vålerenga got a late draw at RBK, and should be confident at home. Should be goals in the game, Both teams have scored in every game so far, and Aalesund will keep attacking I'm sure.
Vålerenga quite like a booking, they make a lot of tactical fouls. Aalesund leave themselves a little open to counter at times, so Dønnum and Sahraoui have good counter pace to take advantage.
Nordli and Castro both were rested on Wednesday from the start, so they will be back and firing for Aalesund.
Shala has been delivering nice free kicks and corners recently, Vilhjalmsson could take advantage of that today.

Bet Builder: over 2.5 goals, both teams to score, over 30 points card index, Vilhjalmsson anytime

Goalscorers I like: Vilhjalmsson(Vålerenga), Nordli(Aalesund)

Sunday 5th July

Bodø/Glimt v Brann (home win) NAP of the weekend

Top of the league, 19 goals in 5 games, Glimt are flying and it probably won't stop this weekend. An extra days rest, they will be on the attack from the off. Expect corners, goals and probably Brann trying to stop them with fouls. Kolskogen, Acosta, Forren, Barmen and Kristiansen all likely booking candidates in my eyes.
Brann are third and have scored in every game, but they shouldn't be a match for the attacking threat of Glimt. They probably will look to play on the counter, so they could get a goal, Bjørkan bombs forward for Glimt, so Koomson could find space on the counter.
Any of Hauge, Junker and Zinckernagel likely to score, maybe even all 3.

Bet Builder: Glimt to win, over 1.5 goals for Glimt, over 9.5 corners, goal in both halves.

Goalscorers I like: Zinckernagel(Glimt) and Koomson(Brann)

Molde v Mjøndalen (home win)

Molde dropped their first points on Thursday, but they should bounce back at home. They average just under 3 goals a game, Mjøndalen might make it hard defensively though. They will probably switch to a back 5 this game.
Injuries mean Molde might be weak at the back, so Ibrahim can score for his 5th game running for sure.
Molde will dominate possession, I think Omoijuanfo will start, he is a big threat in the air and in behind. They have scored 3 goals five out of the last six times against Mjøndalen, so I think 2 or more goals is likely for them again.

Bet Builder: Molde to win and score 2 or more, over 5.5 corners for Molde, Omoijuanfo anytime, 2 or more yellow cards for Mjøndalen.

Goalscorers I like: Omoijuanfo(Molde) and Ibrahim(Mjøndalen)

Odd v Haugesund (draw)

Odd will struggle for goals without Børven, Haugesund haven't scored more than 2 in a game yet. I think this could be a tight one.
It's a hard one to pick a winner, and neither side particularly aggressive or win many corners, so I think this match is best avoided.
If there is to be a goals, Sandberg for Haugesund is in good form and hits set pieces including penalties.

Bet Builder: Under 3.5 goals, under 10.5 corners, goal in both halves(NO)

Goalscorers I like: Bakenga(Odd) and Sandberg(Haugesund)

Sandefjord v Sarpsborg (Away win)

Sarpsborg have no points, but I think this might be their day. They have been getting closer, just need to put chances away. They have only scored 3 goals.
Sandefjord have one goal from open play so far this season and haven't scored in three games now, so this game might be a 1-0 or 0-1, or 0-0.
Sarpsborg do win a lot of corners, but not scoring from them. Sandefjord play for set pieces too, so can maybe play corners market, favouring the away team.
Sandefjord have been quite card happy too, so perhaps something on the bookings.
I think the way Sarpsborg played on the first half on Thursday, they can win this one.

Bet Builder: Sarpsborg win or draw, Sarpsborg over 4.5 corners, over 30 card index

Goalscoarers I like: Gibson(Sandefjord) and Larsen(Sarpsborg)

Strømsgodset v Kristiansund (Away Win)

Godset still not looking good this season, Kristiansund got a draw against Molde and a real attacking threat. Godset an extra days rest, and a game here that I expect goals.
It's a fixture that has produced goals recently, 3 or more in the last five occasions, and Pellegrino is back firing for KBK and scored 5 already this season.
Corners as well pretty likely here with the style of play from both.
Since a 0-0 in gameweek 1, Kristiansund have scored 13 goals in the four games. Godset have scored in both their home games so far, only once though.

Bet Builder: Over 1.5 goals for Kristiansund, over 2.5 goals in the game, over 9.5 corners, Pellegrino to score anytime

Goalscorers I like: Maigaard(Godset) and Pellegrino(Kristiansund)

Stabæk v Rosenborg (score draw)

The final game of the weekend should be very good. RBK have ben better in the last two, Stabæk looking better as well. I think there will be goals, Børven will almost certainly start for RBK, and Helland will be a likely assistee for him with his crosses.
Young Hansen got 2 on Wednesday, he looked lively, so does Vetlesen, and Edvardsen for the home side.
RBK get a lot of corners, Stabæk will attack at home, it has the making of a very good game with hopefully goals.
3-1 and 3-2 the games they played last season, more of the same please.

Bet Builder: Over 2.5 goals, over 10.5 corners, both teams to score, goal in both halves

Goalscorers I like: Hansen(Stabæk) and Børven(RBK)

NAP of the weekend is Glimt to beat Brann and to score 2 or more goals.

Gameweek 5 Review

Gameweek 5 has been and gone as another round of midweek fixtures is beginning to take the toll on the players as injuries are adding up a little, and the total goals were a little down this gameweek.

Wednesday 1st July

Game of the Week

Odd v Bodø/Glimt

Glimt made the trip to Skien to meet Odd as they looked to maintain their perfect start of the season. Odd had scored nine goals in their previous two games, but came into this game on the back foot as top scorer Torgeir Børven was no longer at the club after his move to Rosenborg took place on the last day of the transfer window.

Tobias Lauritsen was the man brought in to replace Børven up top, pressure on him to try and get amongst the goals quickly. Glimt meanwhile with their familiar front 6 would be the usual attacking threat that has seen them score 15 goals in the first 4 games.

Glimt started on the front foot and within 15 minutes the game had completely swung in their favour. Some great link up play between Hauge and Saltnes let the former through on the left, and his cross was aimed at Kasper Junker in the middle. Junker was about to tap in but Espen Ruud slid in from behind and made contact with the striker, and a penalty was given.

To add salt in the wound, Ruud was sent off, and Zinckernagel stepped up to score his second penalty of the season and give Glimt the early lead, and a man advantage as well.

The following 5 minutes were tough for Odd, Saltnes and then Junker both having shots saved by keeper Rossbach. But it wasn't long before the second goal arrived, and it was number five for the season for Danish striker Junker.

Again it was Hauge the chief creator, a very similar bit of play that led to the penalty, this time linking up with Bjørkan and firing across for Junker to tap in. Pretty much game over after just 25 minutes of the contest.

For the rest of the half, Odd managed to keep it down to 2-0, Saltnes and Zinckernagel going as close as anyone, but Glimt were in no mood to relax as Odd endured a tough day at home.

The second half began with a bang, and a great strike on his first start from centre back Marius Høibråten. The ball broke to him nearly 30 yards out on his left foot and he hit a first time shot like a cannon into the bottom right corner.

The next chance fell to Junker again, his header from a Bjørkan cross hitting the bar and going over.

Glimt rang the changes, giving a nice rest to Junker, Lode and Fet, and it was one of the substitutes, Sammy Skytte, that got the fourth. Good work on the right from Zinckernagel, his cross found Skytte about 12 yards out and his shot found the net.

With that it was time to rest Bjørkan and Hauge as well, Glimt well rested before the visit of Brann on Sunday.

In the dying minutes Berg and Zinckernagel both shot wide as Odd rarely threatened and this game ended 0-4 .Glimt stay top of the league and continue their incredible start to the season.

Man of the Match - Philip Zinckernagel scored the opener from the spot and set up the final goal for Sammy Skytte. In between he was a constant threat and it was a tough evening for Birk Risa at left back for Odd. Two goals and four assists so far this season for Zinckernagel, his pace and directness from the right hand side is a great option for Glimt who have so many good attacking options.

Around the Grounds

Aalesund welcomed Mjøndalen as they continue to look for their first win of the season, and five games in they are still waiting after Mjøndalen left with all 3 points. Shuaibu Ibrahim opened the scoring, a goal in his fourth consecutive game, turning home from close range after a long throw.

Vetle Dragsnes made it two, volleying home a pinpoint cross from Alexander Hansen for his first of the season. Aalesund got back in it from the spot, Castro tucking it away after Nordli had been fouled.

But it wasn't to be for Aalesund, as they pushed for an equaliser with 10 men after a Haugen red, and the keeper up for a corner, Mjøndalen broke and it was an easy goal for Sondre Liseth. A nice win on the road for Mjøndalen as they move up to 5th spot.

Haugesund entertained Start at Haugesund Stadion, although it wasn't the most entertaining affair in truth. Start off the back of a 5-0 defeat against Odd came here to defend with 5 at the back and nearly managed to leave with a point.

Niklas Sanderg rattled the bar for the home side from a well struck free kick, and Ammistzbøll had a shot well saved by Deumeland in goals, and that was as close as Haugesund came inside the 90 minutes.

But into stoppage time, a corner came in and was turned into his own net by the unlucky Jesper Daland. Start had little time to answer, and they couldn't, as they continue to look for their first win as well.

Teenager Hansen with his first Eliteserien goals
Over at Nadderud Stadion, Stabæk won 2-0 for their second home game in a row. Strømsgodset were the visitors who left empty handed thanks to a double from teenager Kornelius Normann Hansen.

The 19 year old former Southampton academy player grabbed his first two ever Eliteserien goals here in an impressive first half display from the home side. The first came from a long kick from Keeper Sandberg which found Edvardsen. He laid it off to Hansen to finish well from the left channel.

The second was from a long throw in from Solheim, Hansen taking it down and flicking it in over the goalkeeper really nicely. An exciting performance from the youngster, and Stabæk looking better and better as they settle into the season.

There was a first win in the season over in Stavanger for Viking as they beat Sandefjord 2-0. The first goal came from Kristoffer Løkberg, firing home a Berisha cross after Anton Kralj slipped when trying to clear.

It was probably the best Veton Berisha has looked since his return to Viking, and he got his head on a nicely delivered Joe Bell free kick to confirm the win and the much needed three points. Sandefjord struggling badly, and still with only 1 goal from open play so far this season.

The evening game saw Vålerenga make the trip to Trondheim to meet Rosenborg, and they left fairly happy with a share of the points.

Rosenborg, with new man Børven on the bench, took the lead through Marius Lundemo, a beautiful curling strike into the top left hand corner from about 25 yards.

RBK gave probably their best display of the season so far, but Vålerenga left with a point when a corner wasn't cleared properly and a deflected Ivan Nasberg volley found its way into the net. The home side down in 11th and still hunting a new manager.

Thursday 2nd July

The early kick of on Thursday was set to be a real cracker, with champions Molde taking the short trip to Kristiansund.

The first half didn't live up to expectations, but in the second half the game came alive, and it was no surprise to see the opening goal from the returning Amahl Pellegrino, back from injury with his 5th of the season.

The champions fought back however, and Hussain had a deflected shot find it's way into the net, then a corner from Eikrem was turned into his own net by Pål Erik Ulvestad to give Molde the lead.

It looked like they would go on to win their 5th consecutive game, but in the last minute of injury time a poor challenge from Fredrik Aursnes on Kastrati in the box gave Andreas Hopmark the opportunity to level the match, and he made no mistake.

The game ending 2-2 and Molde dropping their first points of the campaign to fall two points behind Glimt.

In the final game of the midweek round, Brann took the trip over to pointless Sarpsborg, and despite being under pressure for the majority of the first half, they led at the break thanks to a third of the season for Gilbert Koomson.

Sarpsborg looked bereft of confidence after that and in the second half they created very little as Brann held on to get their third win of the season and move into third place, five points behind the leaders.

Sarpsborg still chasing their first point of the season having only scored three goals. They have perhaps been a little unlucky in a few of the games, but they need to find a goalscorer quickly, or they risk being cut off.

Gameweek 5 Preview

A look at gameweek 5 in Eliteserien this coming Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday 1st July

Aalesund v Mjøndalen (Score Draw)

Differing styles in this one. Aalesund like to attack, Mjøndalen keep it tight. Aalesund should have won at the weekend, and it was Sigurd Haugen that was a huge goal threat. Mjøndalen lost a couple goals, but that is the first time this season.
I fear Mjøndalen could hit Aalesund on the break in this one, Ibrahim is in goalscoring form, so look out for him again.
Aalesund have scored in every game so far, Mjøndalen have scored once in 3 games, goalless in the other, but I think this game could suit them.
With Castro dropping deep for Aalesund, look out for an Aasmundsen yellow card as well for Mjøndalen.

Bet Builder: Both teams to score, Aasmundsen to be carded, Ibrahim anytime.

Most likely scorers in my opinion: Haugen for Aalesund and Ibrahim for Mjøndalen

Haugesund v Start (Home Win)

Off the back of a first win, Haugesund will fancy their chances against Start who have yet to win and just lost 5-0. Likely changes from that game include the goalkeeper, but Start rotated last midweek a little too.
Niklas Sandberg has started the season well, he is a goal candidate for Haugesund, but Start conceed goals from set pieces quite often, so an outside bet could be Benjamin Tiedemann Hansen for a goal.
Start were awful on Saturday, they can't be that bad again. Bringaker is their biggest threat in a game that I fancy some goals and corners.

Bet Builder: Over 2.5 goals, Over 9.5 corners, Sandberg anytime to score.

Most likely scorers: Sandberg for Haugesund and Bringaker for Start.

Odd v Bodø/Glimt (Away Win)

The big news before this one is that Torgeir Børven won't be playing, he is joining Rosenborg today it has been agreed, with his contract up next month.
Glimt and Odd are both in scoring form, 25 goals between them in their 4 games so far. So, goals is on the cards again. JP Hauge on paddypower has 3/1 odds to score anytime, that's far too high the form he is in.
It should be a pretty attacking game, both teams hit a lot of crosses so should see corners I would hope. Glimt got to be favourites with Børven not playing. Although Odd have signed Mushaga Bakenga to replace him, he isn't as good or prolific.

Bet Builder: Over 2.5 goals, over 10.5 corners, Birk Risa to be booked, goal in both halves

Most likely to score: Tobias Lauritsen for Odd, Kasper Junker for Glimt.

Stabæk v Strømsgodset (Home Win)

Well beaten by Molde, but Stabæk showed glimpses in attack, Vetlesen looks a really good player and goal threat this year. Godset aren't playing well, they were lucky against Aalesund, and 3 of their last 4 goals have been penalties from Maigaard.
I fancy Stabæk strongly here, and they are around evens to win. I think they will score more than 1 goal as well. Kassi might be injured, but I actually thought Kinoshita looked sharp when he came on the other night, he is still looking for a goal, it could be this week.

Bet Builder: Stabæk to win and to score 2 or more goals, Gunnarsson to be carded for Godset, Vetlesen to score.

Most likely to score: Vetlesen for Stabæk and Maigaard for Godset from a penalty.

Viking v Sandefjord (Home Win)

Viking yet to win, Sandefjord probably the best chance to do it. Sandefjord have only scored once from open play so far, a counter against an Odd side who were chasing an equaliser.
Viking were a little better against Vålerenga, still lost the game though.
It was two set pieces than undone them, Sandefjord can play on that, so I do think both teams will score, although for Sandefjord it could be a defender up for a set piece, maybe Grorud.
Viking attack with a lot of cross balls, and have more corners than any other team.

Bet Builder: Viking over 5.5 corners, Both teams to score, Palsson to be carded

Rosenborg v Vålerenga (Home Win)

Børven is available for Rosenborg against Vålerenga. He scored a hattrick against them last Wednesday. Can he do it again?
Rosenborg love corners, and played better against Brann, but they don't dominate midfield at all. Helland to Børven could be a nice link up. Expect that to create goals this season.
Vålerenga won against Viking, but they weren't particularly convincing. Dønnum is lively and RBK leave gaps in that left back area, he could be a threat here.
Can RBK create chances for Børven is the big question.

Bet Builder: Corners over 10.5, both teams to score, Børven anytime

Most likely scorers: Børven for RBK and Vilhjalmsson for Vålerenga.

Thursday 2nd July

Kristiansund v Molde (Away Win)

Kristiansund are the latest to try and stop Molde, and they should have Pellegrino back fit. Leke James doesn't quite look 100% fit, but his link play was excellent on Sunday, and him and Omoijuanfo are due to play together.
Goals are to be expected here, two attacking teams who both haven't really kept it tight at the back. Kristiansund have played away 3 times, so they will be happy to be home.
This could be Molde's biggest test yet.

Bet Builder: Both teams to score, over 2.5 goals, goal in both halves

Most likely scorers: Pellegrino for Kristiansund, Omoijuanfo for Molde.

Sarpsborg v Brann (Away Win)

Pointless Sarpsborg have scored only 3 goals so far, conceding 7. But they have been creating chances, just not been clinical enough.
Brann are good on the road with their counter threat. Taylor, Koomson and Bamba all have the pace to get in behind. Bamba was unhappy to be subbed after an hour on Sunday, he will want to score on Thursday, and I think he will with his pace in behind.
Abdellaoue was rested at the weekend, he scored two last midweek, and Sarpsborg have been slowly improving, so this game should see some goals as well.

Bet Builder: Both teams to score, Bamba anytime, Acosta to be carded.

Most Likely Scorers: Abdellaoue for Sarpsborg, Bamba for Brann

NAP : Bodø/Glimt to score 2 or more goals

Gameweek 4 Review

Another weekend of Eliteserien football has gone by, that is four games in 11 days for all the teams, and there will be another round of games on Wednesday and Thursday.

This weekend it seemed like the intensity was down very slightly, perhaps not surprising given the schedule and the weather we have been having in Norway, still, there was 25 goals over the eight games.

It has been near 30 degrees Celsius for over two weeks now, and the players will need to continue showing their fitness as we have another two gameweeks this week.

Saturday 27th June

Game of the Week

Vålerenga v Viking

Viking visited Oslo on Saturday evening still looking for their first win of the season. Vålerenga meanwhile were off the back of a 4-1 beating from Odd on Wednesday night, and were looking to get their second win of the season, back home at Intility Arena.

There was a first start on the left wing for exciting youngster, Osame Sahroui, the 19 year old replacing Finne for this one in the Vålerenga side.

It was the home side who started by far the better of the two teams. Shala had a header straight at the keeper which was tipped over, and Dønnum went clean through from a quick counter, but shot straight at Austbø.

However it didn't take too long for the opening goal to arrive, and it was a second of the season for Mathias Vilhjalmsson. Herolind Shala swung in a free kick from the right hand side, and the big striker flicked a header into the net.

For me Austbø could probably do better, it was above him, and I never like to see a keeper being beaten like that, but it was a nice ball in from Shala and a deserved lead for Vålerenga.

In terms of chances that was pretty much it for the first half, neither side really creating much as Viking continue to struggle for goals.

The second half they started brighter however, Østensen getting his head to a Joe Bell corner, but Klaesson pulling off a decent save.

Then came the real controversial moment of the match, as Vålerenga were awarded a ridiculous penalty. Sahroui had a cross from the left, and standing two metres away, defender Andresson had is arms behind his back. The ball hit his elbow which was against his body, and somehow the referee deemed it worthy of a penalty.

Thankfully for the game, and Viking, Vilhjalmsson  stepped up and his penalty was saved by Austbø, a pretty tame effort from the big striker down to the keepers right.

This seemed to spur on Viking, and Joe Bell, who looked very good in midfield for the away side, played a lovely pass in behind for Østensen, but his effort was well stopped by young goalkeeper Klaesson.

It wasn't long before the equaliser arrived, and it was a quality team goal for Viking. Furdal passed it into the feet of Østensen, who flicked it on to Berisha first time in the box, and he in turn passed it to Ibrahimaj for an easy tap in. A quality goal and a first of the season for the Kosovan international.

Deyver Vega - Costa Rican international
This fired Vålerenga back into life, young Sahroui causing trouble down the left, and his cross very nearly sliced into his own net by Andresson.

But the winning goal was to arrive, and again it was a set piece. Shala playing it in, and as Adekugbe challenged for it, it broke kindle for substitute Deyver Vega to fire into the roof of the net from 8 yards.

They should have made the game safe, both Finne and Stokke missing good opportunities going through on the goalkeeper, but it didn't matter in the end.

A huge blow for Viking, but an important win for Vålerenga who find themselves in 6th spot after the first 4 games.

Viking on the other hand are winless, only kept off the bottom by pointless Sarpsborg. Viking's only point came in a 1-1 home draw with Mjøndalen.

Dønnum becoming a real attacking threat for Vålerenga
Man of the Match - It was a good team display from Vålerenga, but Aron Dønnum maybe just sneaks it for me. He is direct and a real threat on that right hand side, cutting in on his left foot.
He should have had a goal, but he is young and I think developing nicely into a good player for Vålerenga.

Around the Grounds

The other game to take place on Saturday evening saw Odd visit IK Start. In what looked like would be a nice close matchup, it was one way traffic the whole game as Odd ran out 5-0 winners on the road.

Start never got going, a really worrying display for the promoted side who are yet to win. They lost first half goals from Kassa and Hoff inside the first 15 minutes that really set the tone. Kassa finishing nicely with a chip over the keeper and then Hoff running unchallenged from half way, then firing into the corner from 20 yards.

The second half saw Eliteserien's top marksman, Torgeir Børven take his tally to six for the season. He lashed home a penalty and then headed home a corner, to make it 4-0, he looks a great bet for top scorer again this year.

There was time for a 5th, Tobias Lauritsen off the bench to head home after a poor error from Wichne in goal. Odd with back to back wins now and looking more like the team of 2019.

Sunday 28th June

The champions Molde welcomed Stabæk to Aker Stadion looking to continue their perfect start to the season, and produced probably their most convincing display so far, winning comfortably 4-1. Magnus Eikrem got the first, surprising goakeeper Sandberg with a cross come shot at the near post. He really has started the season in great form.

After the break Erling Knudtzon came on and scored with his first touch after Sandberg had twice saved well from Eikrem and Hussain.

Not long after it was 3-0, Leke James on his return from injury, turning home a lovely cross from John Kitolano. Hugo Vetlesen got one back for the visitors but another subsitute for Molde, Ohi Omoijuanfo came on to confirm the win from the penalty spot. Four wins from four for the champions.

Up in Bodø, the other team with a perfect record welcomed pointless Sarpsborg to Aspmyra Stadion, and they kept up pace with Molde by winning 2-1 in a much tighter game than most expected.

Jens Petter Hauge continued his good start to the season when he capitalised on a keeper mistake to score on the half hour mark. Halvorsen then equalised for Sarpsborg after the break, finishing well when the ball broke to him at the edge of the box from a corner.

But it wasn't to be for the bottom of the table club, Ulrik Saltnes scoring with his left foot into the far corner when found in the box by Bjørkan. A quality finish, and Glimt held on to keep up with Molde at the top.

Aalesund made the journey to Strømsgodset and really should have left with all three points, missing a hatful of chances throughout the encounter. Sigurd Haugen gave them the lead, but he also hit the post when it seemed easier to score, and should have done better went sent through 1 v 1.

As it was, Godset got an equaliser, and it was a third penalty in two games for Mikkel Maigaard, who kept his composure from the spot after Uzochukwu had fouled Ikaunieks a couple minutes before the 90.

Ipalibo Jack was sent off just before the end for the home side, as he denied Haugen the chance to go through on goal again with a professional foul. 1-1 it ended, Aalesund still searching for that first win.

Haugesund picked up their first win of the season as they emerged victorious from a trip to Sandefjord. It was a single goal from Kristoffer Velde that gave all 3 points to Haugesund, running through on the left hand side and finishing into the near post with his left foot.

Sandefjord somehow didn't score when Kristoffer Hansen first hit the post then somehow didn't convert the rebound. Another disappointing result for Sandefjord who are already looking like they could be in for a long season.

Mjøndalen and Kristiansund met in Isachsen Stadion and it was the away side who left with all three points. The first half was goalless, mainly thanks to some incredible stops from both goalkeepers, but early in the second Liridon Kalludra got his first goal of the season, finishing well from an Amin Askar cross.

Then it was the returning Pellegrino who was in amongst the goals again, coming off the bench to grab his fourth of the season, slotting home through the keepers legs.

Ibrahim with 3 in 3 for Mjøndalen
Late on their was a consolation goal, his third game in a row now scoring, for Shuaibu Ibrahim, but it was too little too late for the home side.

The final game of the weekend was Rosenborg travelling to Bergen to meet Brann. RBK were winless, Brann yet to taste defeat, but this game went against the form book.

Rosenborg, waiting on a new manager after Horneland's departure, fell behind very early in, Gilbert Koomson striking low in to the far corner after a Bamba pass.

Brann dominated the first half, but right on the half time whistle the game was level. It was Even Hovland who scored, neatly touching home a Helland free kick.

With the game running out of time, a moment of luck that could turn Rosenborg's season gave them the three points. Acosta lost the ball to Carlo Holse, and as Kristiansen tried to clear, the ball rebounded off Holse and over the stranded Ahamada in the Brann goal.

Rosenborg won't care how it came, they played far better in the second half and finally got their first win of the season.

With more games to come on Wednesday and Thursday this week, the fitness of the players is being tested to the limit. Thankfully it seems temperatures will drop this week so lets hope for more goals to keep up the exciting start to this 2020 season.
